![]() ![]() Completely neuters the "mobile combatant" conceit of the monk, because they have to use up the same resource (bonus action and ki) to either SS OR Step of the Wind. Players are encouraged by the mechanics to spend all of their too-scant ki on this: stand in front of enemy, attack, use Flurry, attempt SS on every hit that lands, repeat next turn if you're still alive. So either the new abilities all use the same resource as SS, or they're all just ribbon crap that don't add to the Monk's combat effectiveness. The game developers see that "encounter ending" status effect, and make every subclass as an attempt to get players to not spam SS. Old thread, who knows if anyone will read this, but here's my two cents: Stunning Strike promotes boring and repetitive gameplay, and is why the monk does not get decent, synergistic subclasses.
